Personal History

Pratibha Gupta

Born and brought up in India. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Economics with a minor in Psychology. In 1971, I received my Master’s degree in Philosophy and made Art my passion. Afterwards, I did part time studies at the J. J. School of Arts in Mumbai (Bombay).

I have always been fascinated by almost a magical power of line and color – how on a blank surface images are created and put on paper or canvas which only the mind’s eye can see.

For me Art is a quest and painting is its expression. Visible and invisible are the two inseparable essences of our vision. The known mind probes into the unknown. Visible forms become more and more abstract, trying to reach that undefinable something.

I came to the United States in May 1984. I have worked with Fredrick Munoz, a well known artist in the Twin Cities and have had four solo shows. I have also entered in various juried and invitational shows, winning a number of awards.
