Pottery is a large part of Pratibha’s repertoire along with painting. She came to pottery about 16 years ago. Its connection to the elements is what she loves. Her approach to pottery is to explore its interplay between the visual and tangible, concrete objects.
Her experience as a painter and former sculptor influences the shape and design of her pots. She treats clay as an opportunity to have a visual adventure and is always coming up with new forms and combinations.
Along with a group of potters, Pratibha has a Japanese-style kiln, called an Anagama. This allows them to do frequent wood firings. Wood firings are close to her heart because the random strokes of the fire and ash – she sees the pots as the canvas, the ash as the paint and the fire as the brush – become an extension of her own spiritual and creative sources.
